Economic Empowerment

One of HWT’s key intervention areas is to provide livelihood and self-employment support to poor households and provide them income generating opportunities, so that they can earn livelihood for themselves and their families rather than being dependent on others for their daily food needs and other requirements. As part of livelihood and self-employment program, we provide various types of income generating support to beneficiaries, including:

  • Small business units such as jute bag manufacturing unit and stitching unit, etc.
  • Small kiosks such as snacks stall, tea stall, etc.
  • Small shops such as Kirana shop, mobile accessories shop, beauty parlour, cosmetic shop, etc.
  •   E-Rikshaws
  •   Auto Rikshaws
  •   Vegetable Vending Carts
  •   Three-wheel Vending Carts
  •   Sewing Machines
  •   Poultry and Goat Farming

Covid-19 Livelihood Support: While implementing our various food and health related projects during the Covid-19 pandemic across the country, HWT came across very sad and tragic stories of hundreds of middle-class and lower-middle-class families across India, which lost their sources of livelihood – either in terms of loss of their businesses or their jobs – as a result of the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns and restrictions on movements. HWT decided to support those who lost their businesses or jobs, and subsequently designed a comprehensive project to support the impacted businesses and individuals through various small and medium size livelihood projects. As part of this project, HWT supported hundreds of Covid-impacted individuals across the country with small livelihood projects.
