Winter Relief
There are millions of homeless as well as middle-income and lower-middle-income families across the North Indian states, who battle hard, every year, to overcome the nightmare of winter times. Winter is a test of survival for homeless in India. With dipping temperatures and no warm clothes to protect themselves from the chilling winter, hundreds of homeless die every winter in India.
Since 1980, people killed by cold waves are much more as compared to heat waves, as per a study conducted by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The study further states a 506% increase in the number of cold waves that India has reportedly witnessed in the last ten years. Every year, North Indian cities and villages witness severe cold waves that worsen the condition particularly for homeless people.
To help protect the homeless and needy people from the killing weather in winters and to help them survive, HWT is committed to provide blankets to as many as it can. The project helps in minimizing fatalities caused by cold waves and in spreading empathy towards fellow human beings.
